So how was the movie?
Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 12:00PM

Everyone is asking me what I thought about the movie yesterday. If you haven't see it yet, and are planning to, you should definitely proceed with caution. There will be "spoilers" posted here. So I suggest you stop reading now if you haven't see it. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Well.. I first heard about the movie in the states, where it is called "Knowing", from a trailer on TV. It looked pretty interesting and loved the idea of someone being able to predict the future. I also like Nicolas Cage a lot. Some people say his "acting" bothers them but I totally disagree. He has always been pretty consistent for me and I know that his films will be somewhat enjoyable.
I also learned later on that Alex Proyas directed it. I recently became a fan of his after seeing "Dark City" for the first time last year. Talk about weird and strange..lol. But I really enjoyed that movie. So that made me more excited to see "Knowing"
The "icing on the cake" was when I found out a week ago that the film was shot not on film, but on aRED camera. I am a technical nerd when it comes to films and movies. I have been watching the RED camera develop for a long time now. If you don't know what the RED camera is, it is a digital movie camera that looks a lot like film. I definitely think it is the future of cinema.
Eventually, everything goes digital. Is it for the better? Notnecessarily, but it is a lot more affordable for sure. Photography and music have made the leap to digital and have never looked back. I think Movies are next.
Okay, so how was the movie.. Did I like it?
Of course I did. :-)
Maybe it helped that I saw it with all of you.
SPOILER ALERT(Spoiler's below)
But I thought the story was very interesting and kept me intrigue throughout the movie. And let's not forget the special effects. They were spectacular to me at times. I really loved that plane crash sequence and THE END sequence.
Yes the ending was a little strange and some of you might think it was WEAK. But I liked the fact that the mother does die on that day like predicted and that the aliens or whatever they were, wouldn't let Nicolas Cage go with them because he was not chosen. Not to mention that the world gets destroyed and Nicolas Cage's character dies. It had such a dark gloomy ending. They(the producers and the studio) could have wimp out anytime and given us that typical hollywood ending, but they didn't. And that's why I liked it.
I am also very curious to hear about what you guys thought about the movie. You don't have to agree with me too. Let's discuss :-)

Bonjour Taj :)

Hey Taj
Firstly let me say thank you (both of you) again for yesterday..it was wonderful !!
So the movie...hehehhehe ERM......so I guess the story was okay and the the ideas the producers had for it...okay but the movie itself (to me of course) was not something I would say I would go and watch again. The start was really good as it got me thinking and I like that in a movie and yes I really liked the plane crash, train crash sequences they were gr8 and I also like that the mom dies although I did kinda predict that was gonna happen but the rest of the movie at times I felt could have been better (like N.Cages....now I know u like him but his voice did my head in)
I guess the issue was not so much the movie but it was hyped up here in the UK so I really wanted to see it but I guess what I was expecting from it I never got and I came away somewhat disappointed with it. Oh so the aliens - which were not aliens in fact that were meant to be angels (so not sure why the had a space ship..lol) as the story was based around a bible story (so my mate who watched it with us tells me)
If I had to rate it I would give it 5/10
Anyways thanks again for inviting us I had a blast and I hope to see you in London for the concerts, enjoy the rest of your weekend and take care
Love
Syna
p.s. I hope you enjoyed the choc's I gave you xxx
Taj, do you believe our lives are already pre-destined? I left the movie re-visiting this thought. Lastly, I didn't think Ncolas character was NOT " chosen," because simply not being a chosen one. I thought, because he was an adult and therefore "unclean." The children were portrayed as open and clean ; therefore, chosen. They were the new "Adam and Eve" that would create life in a new world or planet. Were we suppose to believe they were heaven? I don't believe so, but what do you really think ?
Well I really liked the movie
the special effects as you said was so spectacular, the plan and the subway ? WOW! that was so real i almost cried lol
My only probleme was the end, the idea is really good, I like the fact too that the planet is destroy, but the effect with the angels was a bit too cartoon for me.
And I love Nicolas Cage so I had a really great time, thank you again!
Marine - Thanks for yesterday nite I had a blast so did Hibist...so request me on facebook search syna tikur, I should be the only one! Take soon babes xxx
I had a good time yesterday and I liked the movie, but it'll never be one of my favorites... It was good entertainment, but in my opinion... not more than that.
When I watched the movie I got a sense of deja vu. I felt like a lot of elements were taken from other movies (which makes sense of course, because it uses a mix of standard themes, like "the end of the world, aliens (which app. were angels, but that could well be linked to a discovery series I watched - I believe that's called The Bible Uncovered, which is controversial, but it get's you thinking), predictions, waves of death (which were in this case made of fire, instead of water)." I somehow left the movie thinking that they could have made the story a lot stronger if they'd wanted to!!!
But, I did have a good time. And from solely an entertainment point of view... it's a good night out. Especially with good company!!

I enjoyed the movie very much. I loved the plane crash, the subway huge "accident" and the spectacular end with this space ship and these strange transparent people..
I knew when the little boy heard the voices (and not his father) that he would be directly linked to the problem and The End. I rapidly understood that the boy and the girl were the only one to hear that, that was obvious. The end looked really "adam and eve" for me but it was quite good, with this big tree and the little boy and the little girl running on a new planet...that's a new beginning with new hope I guess..that's what i felt at the very end.. also I really liked that the end was not a hollywood one with Nicolas Cage rescuing all the planet (it worked for films like independance day or MIB but here, no way! :-) )..he even died, there was nothing he could do to help but giving his son (and the girl) to the futur..
I wanted to see that movie before, and watching this in english was really good!!
Thanks again and again Taj for the time you gave to us, and knowing you were inside the movie theater with us was a blast!!!!
;-)

I had a great time yesterday! :-) The movie was good but like others said it had too many elements of other movies. Also, I was not too sure about where they were going with this ending. If the 'aliens' were indeed supposed to be angels and the end is like the bible story it would make more sense to me. But then the whole 'angels on a spaceship' was a bit too much and could have been left out. If they were just aliens, too many other things like the 'chosen ones' were left unexplained, so either way although the ending was beautiful it could have been much better.
LOL doh ! i`am silly i did`nt know you updated and started reading random stuff well .... safe to say i spoilt it lol, but i`am forgetful ,so by the time i watch it i would have forgotten LMAO (kids do that to ya mind ! Wait till u have a few lol )
Have a safe flight dude ... love ya ! c ya ! miss u ! byyyyeeee! Donna (aleshajae3t)
ps: why did`nt u want my gift?lol confused? c my twitter page lol .
i actually loved the ending....because it was diff. it's been a while since i enjoyed a movie..and i loved this movie. i like the way that nick was able to figure out that the world was going to end and tryed to stop it...but couldn't and then he realized that...i am a parent so i found the scene where he had to let his son go heart wrenching...it is my fave scene because they show how much the father loves his son...i all so like the fact that nick went back to his family to spend the last moments of his life with them...

I liked the movie but the end was... :)
Nicolas Cage driving a car in this chaos and it seems the world they will build, will be the perfect world . But I enjoy the movie: suspens, great action, good actors

ok so the knowing.
I wont be able to discuss the whole movie since i fell alseep for a few minutes ( sorry long day ) but the overal story was entertaining. The beginning was strong when " Lucinda" was making all the predictions That kept me on the edge of my seat.. Im also not a fan of cage but he did ok. The special effects were amazing. Im a sucker for some great effects and those were def present but what i can't understand is why all great movies have to end with some kind of alientype figure to make it more interesting. Personally for me it makes it way too fake. Same goes for movies like Cloverfield with the spiders.. NOT NESSESARY.
I agree with that i liked the fact that it didnt have the regular happy ending. However the running through gras towards a tree was just a little too Disney for me.. Keep people wondering, keep em talking!
Lucinda
I havent seen the movie, but I know just from reading the spoilers, that I'd probably want to hurt myself if I had to sit down for more than 20 minutes and subject myself to something like that. But I do like the fact that Taj mentioned Nicholas Cage's character dies. I hate happy movie endings..... Except Pay It Forward.... that was the most stupid, unnecessarily painful ending in a movie I've ever seen.
It was great seeing you and Thayana @ Schiphol Airport today.
What usually takes 15 minutes to walk, now took me 7 minutes hahaha
Did I scare you by tapping you on the shoulder and ask where you were going ;-)
BTW....were the seatings fine?? Better than the ones you had right ;-)

Hay taj ^^
I like the movie. But no the end. The end is verry special i found.
Thanks really for this day.
I will discuss with you, but i have to wait. The movie-start is 09. April in germany. ;-) But i searched and found a few things about the movie (the german name is "Knowing" too). First i found the german Trailer: mmh. :-/ to short. But the english Trailer: WOW! And Camera Simon Duggan... Underworld: Evolution, I robot, Live Free or Die Hard and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. That sounds well and I am really curios now!!
Wish you a save trip home!!
Ooooh I'm so sad to see this message only today !!!! I live in Paris and I'm a big fan of 3T and to see you would have been a real pleasure... bouuuhhh :'(
I hope that you will come back very soon !!!
Hi Taj,
I haven't seen this film yet but sounds like it is worth a watch, even though I read the 'plot spoiler'!! I'm a bit weird and often like to know what's going to happen anyway so it doesn't matter. Will let you know what I think once i've seen it.
Wish I had been able to meet you in Paris, it sounds like it was a fantastic event! I am a school teacher living in Scotland...somehow I doubt I would have got a couple of days off school to fly over!!! lol! The pupils already think I'm nuts because I was trying to book tickets to see Michael in the summer while I was teaching!
I hope you are well and look forward to hearing more news from you.
Take care,
Fiona
p.s. I you fancy following me on 'Twitter' my username thing is 'JennyWren14' and I'm already following you! It would be very much appreciated!

Sad to have missed it :( I havent seen the movie so not much I can say, but your spoilers didn't really spoil much I don't think. They haven.t deterred me from seeing it. I agree, i'm quite the fan of gloomy endings at the best of times. Its nice to see something every now and again without all the faff. I'm looking forward to it. :)
hi Taj this movie look very seacry but am happy that you had fun hugs una
Its like the Legend....where will smith dieshe at the end...i mean the hero of all heroes and tough he found a cure, those flesh eating zombies were still roaming the streets....and did u see the part where his dog dies??? His one and only friend??? its soooo sad...but hey i love will!!!
xxxx
Oh and btw.....talking about numbers and codes...i think the film is pretty much based on the bible code....yes a book such as this exist...get it and have a good look....u will be amazed and scared at the same time
